common cathedral Sunday worship
We gather every Sunday at 12 p.m. for lunch and outdoor worship by the Brewer Fountain on Boston Common. Our service is full of life, love and music. Together we pray, reflect on scripture, celebrate, share Communion, and SING! Guests of all kinds join our congregation every week, including folks from traditional congregations; youth groups; tourists; local residents; and additional volunteers who offer their time, clothing, and other supplies.
common cathedral serves as an important worshipping community for people experiencing homelessness, and for anyone who wants to be in community with us.
ALL are welcome! And ALL are welcome to participate!
common art
common art provides space, materials and support to unhoused and low income individuals as they develop their artistic abilities. People who live in shelters, rooming houses, on unclaimed couches and on Boston's streets, gather every Wednesday at Emmanuel Church to draw, paint, sculpt, make jewelry, sing, put on plays and share their gifts with other artists in a safe and supportive community. A typical gathering includes 40-50 artists along with artist-volunteers, interns and staff. common artists are encouraged to sell their work and we organize regular art sales on Newbury Street, right outside the church, and in church and community spaces across the Commonwealth. All money from art sales is retained by the artists themselves.
Each week, community members also organize breakfast and prepare, serve and share a delicious hot lunch for us all. Often we host live music with help from our friends at The New England Conservatory and Berklee College of Music.
common art is open to all. Come and see!
We meet every Wednesday from 8:30am -2:00pm at Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury Street, Boston.
