Sunday Lunch and Worship
Every Sunday for 25 years common cathedral has been worshipping on the Common by Brewer Fountain. Before bodies can be ready to be spiritually fed, they need to be physically fed. Volunteers who bring lunches on a Sunday morning are integral in the success of the day. They have the option to, after dropping off 150 bag lunches, stay for worship and partner with us in the service. Such partnering would include collecting prayers, serving communion, and reading the Gospel.
Weekday Lunches
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays we offer a light lunch that is provided by volunteers who sign up each week. They bring sandwiches, fruit, and granola bars to the program and help provide a meal to all present at the program. If interested, find our sign-up genius page linked below!
Monday & Friday, BostonWarm
BostonWarm is a low-bar, low activity drop-in center aiming to provide a safe place off the street for the unhoused in the Boston area. Coffee and light lunches are provided as well as opportunities to relax, connect with friends, and be seen. The Wednesday program, common art, begins at 8:30am with a morning meeting to check in with one another. Afterwards, everyone helps set up for the art projects that are being offered at the different tables around the room. Some will have beading, painting, sketching, water color; the Artist in Residence will have a structured lesson or project to participate in as well. Coffee and light lunches are available until closing at 2pm. This program is also hosted at Emmanuel Episcopal Church (15 Newbury St., Boston) every Wednesday throughout the year. Volunteering at this program includes working in the kitchen, light manual labor like cleaning art supplies but most importantly talking with our community.
thursday, Feed Your Spirit
Volunteer to be a guest speaker at our Thursday program, Feed Your Spirit. Each week a small group gets together at Old South Church and hears from a guest about their faith journey. The group participates in an activity the the guest speaker does to feed their spirit, then gets to reflect on whether that activity feeds their own spirit. Participants have the dignity of choice over deciding to incorporate new practices into their spiritual care team.
